UN raises concerns about UK refugee scheme as Russia threatens strikes on Kyiv and is ‘ready to attack’ in east | Ukraine latest

A military drone that appeared to have come from the skies over Ukraine has crashed in the Croatian capital, investigators have said.

The drone travelled over three European NATO member states before it landed in Zagreb.

The six-ton Soviet-era aircraft apparently drifted uncontrolled out of Ukraine before crossing into Romania, Hungary and then Croatia.

It crashed into a field near a student dormitory in the early morning of Sunday, causing a large explosion that damaged about 40 parked cars. No one was injured.

A Croatian investigative team said fragments of the drone showed the device carried an “improvised aircraft bomb” filled with an unknown type of explosives.

“Both the bomb and its trigger were made in the former USSR,” said Maj. Mile Tomic.

Investigators have not yet determined which side in the Russia-Ukraine conflict launched the drone, but they said the Ukrainians were more likely to be behind the launch as “fresh” paint traces of the blue and yellow flag were found on the wreckage. However, the wreckage also included a red star, the Russian air force marking.

Both Russia and Ukraine have denied launching the drone.
