Former Amazon and FIS Execs Launch AI Security Platform Liminal

Liminal, a new start-up that has built a security platform allowing regulated firms to safely use generative AI, has launched out of private beta.

Built by a team of former executives from Amazon Web Services and FIS, Liminal allows organisations to have “complete control” over their data when submitted to GenAI models, whether through direct engagement, by using GenAI software or via self-built GenAI apps. The company claimed that by using its solutions, firms would be protected against regulatory compliance risk, data security risk and reputational risk.

Liminal aims to serve a number of industries including banks and credit unions, biotech and life sciences, education, financial services, healthcare and insurance.

“We want every organisation to have the ability to say yes to generative AI,” said Steven Walchek, co-founder and CEO of Liminal. “With Liminal, CIOs and CISOs can securely administer generative AI while protecting their most sensitive data across every use case, regardless of the model(s) they want to use.”

The Denver, US-based start-up has been co-founded by Walchek and Aaron Bach, who serves as its chief technology officer.

Both bring more than 15 years of professional experience in the space, having previously worked at FIS, where Walchek served as chief innovation officer and co-founder of FIS Impact Labs, a new venture incubator within FIS, and Bach served as its head of engineering, innovation.
