Europe’s largest nuclear power plant ‘on fire’ after coming under Russian attack as Moscow changes military strategy | Ukraine latest

“Well it is alarming isn’t it when you see those images we have, those CCTV cameras that are trained on that reactor, you can see why the alarm is so high,” says Sky News correspondent Greg Milam

“The details we have are coming from various agencies. The state emergency of Ukraine has said that the fire broke out outside the perimeter of the nuclear plant.

“But on those images you can see that fire, you can see what appears to be trace of fire going on as if there was some fire fight going on in the area.

“The threat of nuclear danger according to local officials, and the foreign minister of Ukraine who has invoked Chernobyl, and of course the history for Ukraine, for Europe, no one needs a reminder of.

“The international atomic energy agency, which monitors nuclear power of course has said they are aware of this. They have spoken to the Ukrainian officials in charge of this plant, they say there is no change in radiation levels.

“So that is some reassurance so far but the real risk when you are talking about what’s there, six reactors and the amount of nuclear fuel stored there, is why there is such concern.

“Experts themselves say the reactors themselves should be able to withstand most things in terms of aircraft hitting it, they are designed to withstand an awful lot of impact.

“But the fuel that is there is the real concern and the idea of a leak of any radiation is a real concern.”
