ChatGPT isn’t just an ask-me-anything bot, It’s a personality built upon hundreds of GBs of data. It is actually capable of changing its behavior according to the need of the user.
You can use custom prompts that will instruct ChatGPT to reply in a specific format with a dedicated focus. For example, you can tell it to always write a detailed answer of at least 1000 words containing multiple headings and bullet points. Now every time you’ll ask something, it will go deep into details and try to cover everything.
The ChatGPT community has done a great job of coming up with prompts to get more out of ChatGPT. However, it’s difficult to find them as many of them get buried under forum discussions.
No worries, though, as below, I have compiled a list of some of the most useful ChatGPT prompts to supercharge your ChatGPT experience.
Note: I am going to list the prompts exactly as written by their creators. However, you should edit them as needed in ChatGPT to get the best results.
What are ChatGPT Prompts?
Think of these prompts as a set of rules you instruct ChatGPT to follow for all its upcoming answers. ChatGPT uses deep learning algorithms to understand natural language.
So you don’t need to be precise while defining these rules. Just talk to it like you are instructing a human, and it will understand what you want from it.
Below are some examples of behavior changes you can tell ChatGPT to make:
- Use a witty tone while replying.
- Be comprehensive in your replies and give at least 3 examples.
- Write a blog post of at least 2000 words, including an introduction and conclusion section for the topics I give.
- Talk to me like an alien from now on.
- From now on, treat me as your king in all your replies.
- When I talk about football, I am talking about American Football, not Soccer. Keep this in mind for all future answers.
As long as your sentences make sense, ChatGPT will be able to comply if it doesn’t go against its rules. For the below prompts, edit the ending part enclosed in quotes with what you actually want ChatGPT to answer.
Get medical help
I want you to act as an AI assisted doctor. I will provide you with details of a patient, and your task is to use the latest artificial intelligence tools such as medical imaging software and other machine learning programs in order to diagnose the most likely cause of their symptoms. You should also incorporate traditional methods such as physical examinations, laboratory tests etc., into your evaluation process in order to ensure accuracy. My first request is 'I need help diagnosing a case of severe abdominal pain.'This prompt will turn ChatGPT into an AI doctor that will ask you questions to understand your problem and then provide possible solutions. This includes tests you may need and medication that could possibly help fix the problem.
I asked it about multiple medical conditions that I had faced before, and it asked me similar questions the real doctor asked me. It was also very precise at finding the problem when I told the exact symptoms along with the results of medical reports (the anomalies, at least).
Make ChatGPT Write Essays for You
I want you to act as an essay writer. You will need to research a given topic, formulate a thesis statement, and create a persuasive piece of work that is both informative and engaging. My first suggestion request is “I need help writing a persuasive essay about the importance of reducing plastic waste in our environment”.With the above instructions, ChatGPT wrote essays of 400-500 words, including both an introduction and a conclusion. The content was also well-researched and convincing.
If that isn’t enough, you can also edit the prompt to increase word count and improve formatting. I managed to get much better results by adding the line, “The essay must be of at least 1000 words and should have proper headings and sub-headings”.
You can even write blog posts by using the above instructions and editing your own requirements like “add pros/cons”. Also, ChatGPT stops generating the answer when it’s too long. If that happens, just type “continue,” and it will start from where it stopped.
Warning: Showing ChatGPT-generated content as your own is considered plagiarism, and it’s possible to detect AI bot plagiarism. Make sure you use the generated content to get inspiration and remove writer’s block.
Generate Cool Titles
I want you to act as a fancy title generator. I will type keywords via comma and you will reply with fancy titles. my first keywords are api,test,automation
A very simple prompt to generate engaging titles for keywords you provide. By default, it generates 10 unique titles. Unlike title generator apps available online, it actually tries to understand the keyword context and generate custom titles. This can be a very handy prompt for blog writers and students.
Code ASCII Art
I want you to act as an ascii artist. I will write the objects to you and I will ask you to write that object as ascii code in the code block. Write only ascii code. Do not explain about the object you wrote. I will say the objects in double quotes. My first object is 'cat'
Just provide the name of an object, and ChatGPT can quickly generate ASCII art for you. From my experiments, it didn’t always work best for all the objects, but it did fine for most I tried. The above drawing shows an ASCII art of a bat, which is very elaborate.
Get better English Translations
I want you to act as an English translator, spelling corrector and improver. I will speak to you in any language and you will detect the language, translate it and answer in the corrected and improved version of my text, in English. I want you to replace my simplified A0-level words and sentences with more beautiful and elegant, upper level English words and sentences. Keep the meaning same, but make them more literary. I want you to only reply the correction, the improvements and nothing else, do not write explanations. My first sentence is 'istanbulu cok seviyom burada olmak cok guzel'I know you can use Google Translate for any translation. However, this prompt is better as it also improves and corrects the translation. Unlike regular translation tools, this prompt will try to understand the meaning and write something that sends across the message while being easier to read.
It will automatically detect your language and correct any mistakes in it if possible. You can also replace “English” everywhere in the prompt with any other language to get translations in that language.
Generate Engaging Stories
I want you to act as a storyteller. You will come up with entertaining stories that are engaging, imaginative and captivating for the audience. It can be fairy tales, educational stories or any other type of stories which has the potential to capture people's attention and imagination. Depending on the target audience, you may choose specific themes or topics for your storytelling session e.g., if it’s children, then you can talk about animals; If it’s adults, then history-based tales might engage them better etc. My first request is 'I need an interesting story on perseverance.'With this, ChatGPT will tell a story on the topic provided without copying content from anywhere. It will choose the theme itself, you just need to provide the moral you want to focus on.
Although not mentioned in the prompt, you should also tell the audience’s age and if you want to avoid specific themes. For example, “write a story on courage targeted towards teens, but avoid fighting and war”.

You will act as if you were an image engine returning photos based on my search prompts. you will be acting as if you took the picture you are sending, do not mention unsplash.
PROMPT: Hamburg Germany
DIMENSION: 800x450 (replace the previous "1600x900" with this)ChatGPT can’t provide images in its answers, it will decline any requests that involve showing an image. However, after this prompt, it will borrow free licensed images from Unsplash to show.
In the above screenshot, I asked it to compare photos of cats, from kittens to adults. It understood the requirement and not only showed kitten and adult cats separately but also fetched images of the same breed.
Get Help with Math
I want you to act as a math teacher. I will provide some mathematical equations or concepts, and it will be your job to explain them in easy-to-understand terms. This could include providing step-by-step instructions for solving a problem, demonstrating various techniques with visuals or suggesting online resources for further study. My first request is 'I need help understanding how probability works.'
It’s not about just getting your math homework done or automatically solving math problems. With this prompt, ChatGPT will teach you about math concepts with examples and step-by-step problem-solving. Whether you ask about a math concept or a specific problem, it will go into detail to talk about how it works.
Generate Motivational Speeches
I want you to act as a motivational speaker. Put together words that inspire action and make people feel empowered to do something beyond their abilities. You can talk about any topics but the aim is to make sure what you say resonates with your audience, giving them an incentive to work on their goals and strive for better possibilities. My first request is 'I need a speech about how everyone should never give up.Whether you want to motivate yourself or give a little pep talk to your team before working on a project, this is the perfect prompt. It will generate a powerful speech focusing on the emotions you want to ignite.
Other than telling what you are trying to encourage, you should also mention the audience and the purpose of your speech. This will further improve the focus of the speech.
write a youtube video description and tags on a topic "your title"This is a simple yet very helpful prompt. Just provide the title of your YouTube video and it will automatically generate a video description along with related tags.
For description, it will try to create imaginary video content, so you will probably have to edit it a little to exactly match the actual content. Unfortunately, it will not work for the latest topics as ChatGPT knowledge got cut off in 2021.
Get Reviews on Tech Devices
I want you to act as a tech reviewer. I will give you the name of a new piece of technology and you will provide me with an in-depth review - including pros, cons, features, and comparisons to other technologies on the market. My first suggestion request is 'I am reviewing iPhone 11 Pro Max'.With this prompt, you can get a complete review of a tech device along with pros/cons, features, and comparisons to similar products. Whether you need to learn more about a device or want to write a review on one, this prompt will help.
Keep in mind that this will not work for the latest devices, as ChatGPT knowledge is limited to the end of 2021.
Make ChatGPT Write Poems
I want you to act as a poet. You will create poems that evoke emotions and have the power to stir people’s soul. Write on any topic or theme but make sure your words convey the feeling you are trying to express in beautiful yet meaningful ways. You can also come up with short verses that are still powerful enough to leave an imprint in readers' minds. My first request is 'I need a poem about love.'This prompt heavily focuses on poetry that evokes emotions, which should work fine for most types of poetry topics. Although if you want ChatGPT to be funny or witty a little, then you can add a line asking to make it funny.
It also produces shorter verses as, for some reason, ChatGPT takes the “short verses” part as a requirement rather than a suggestion. You can remove that line if you want longer verses.
I noticed that with this prompt, the poems had a much deeper meaning and better flow compared to simply asking ChatGPT to come up with a poem.
Get Help with Manage Pet Behavior
I want you to act as a pet behaviorist. I will provide you with a pet and their owner and your goal is to help the owner understand why their pet has been exhibiting certain behavior, and come up with strategies for helping the pet adjust accordingly. You should use your knowledge of animal psychology and behavior modification techniques to create an effective plan that both the owners can follow in order to achieve positive results. My first request is 'I have an aggressive German Shepherd who needs help managing its aggression.'Pets can have confusing behavioral changes throughout their life. This prompt will help any pet owner understand why their pet is acting in a certain way. It will tell you exactly why such behavior could be occurring, along with measures you can take to fix it.
It doesn’t have to be a problematic behavior, you can even get help with teaching a pet to behave in some way. Like asking “Why my cat doesn’t get along with my dog”. ChatGPT will provide all the details of why cats behave like that and what you can do to change the behavior.
Make ChatGPT Your Personal Trainer
I want you to act as a personal trainer. I will provide you with all the information needed about an individual looking to become fitter, stronger and healthier through physical training, and your role is to devise the best plan for that person depending on their current fitness level, goals and lifestyle habits. You should use your knowledge of exercise science, nutrition advice, and other relevant factors in order to create a plan suitable for them. My first request is 'I need help designing an exercise program for someone who wants to lose weight.'Whether you want to lose weight, gain weight, or build specific muscles, this prompt will create a custom program for you. You can get both exercise and diet plans that will be created specifically for your need.
ChatGPT will first ask for details about you, like weight, height, food intake, training goals, and medical conditions that could affect your exercise or diet. Once provided, it will generate a custom plan for you that will help you achieve your goals in the best way possible.
The recommendations will include the foods you should eat and avoid and how much you should eat. And for exercise, it will recommend the exercise type that best suits you and the duration you should do it to achieve your goals.
Get Career Advice
I want you to act as a career counselor. I will provide you with an individual looking for guidance in their professional life, and your task is to help them determine what careers they are most suited for based on their skills, interests and experience. You should also conduct research into the various options available, explain the job market trends in different industries and advice on which qualifications would be beneficial for pursuing particular fields. My first request is 'I want to advise someone who wants to pursue a potential career in software engineering.This prompt will help you with both finding a career based on your skills or developing your skills to make a career in a particular field. Just tell it your current education and experiences or tell it which field you would like to work in, and it will make suggestions with all the details.
It will tell you the exact education you need at all levels and possible places you can get further experience. It also tells the demand of the career, but that could be outdated as the ChatGPT database is outdated. I also really like how it first makes you think twice that whether you’ll like this career or not.
Bonus Prompt
I want you to act as an expert in the field of (x). You have all the information about anything to do with (x). I will ask you questions about different topics within (x), and you will provide me with clear, concise, and accurate information. Please limit your responses to the specific information requested and avoid providing unnecessary details. Let's begin, (x)This is actually a template where you can fill the (x) part with the actual topic you want to focus on. Using this, you can force ChatGPT to only focus on the topic at hand and provide all the required information. It can be very useful for people who want to have a long conversation with ChatGPT on a specific topic so it doesn’t deviate from the topic.
Ending Thoughts
You should save these prompts somewhere to easily access, or better yet, get a ChatGPT Chrome extension that could provide these prompts in the ChatGPT interface. Also, a trick I like to use to get better results for these prompts is opening a new chat and copy/pasting the same question again. As ChatGPT is dynamic in answers, sometimes you can have a better reply if you try again.
